how to care for your bra banner

Ever thrown a favourite bra in the wash and had it come out the other side looking a little worse for wear, a bit off-colour or totally misshapen? We’ve all been there, and it’s no fun!

The average lifespan of a bra is between six and eight months, but with a little care, our everyday faves and special occasion bras can last much longer, and even make it through the wash!

Here’s a closer look at the basics:

How Often Should You Wash Your Bra?

Don’t wash your bra every day, and stay away from the dryer! How often you should wash your bra depends on personal preference, but we recommend washing your bra after every 2-3 wears as a guide. We know how easy it is to stick to your favourite bra, but it’s also a good idea to rotate it with others, so the fabric maintains shape for longer.

How To Use A Bra Wash Bag Or Hand Wash Your Bra

When it comes to washing, remember that some bras can be really delicate! Because of this, we recommend using a bra wash bag to wash your bras.

To use a bra wash bag, simply place your bras into the bag and zip it. Then place it in the washer alongside your other clothes.

Some bras, in particular padded bras, require special attention and should be hand washed or else they will lose their shape. To hand wash your padded bras, simply soak your bra in clean warm water with a teaspoon or two of detergent for 20 minutes. Then use your hands to press the bra and gently drain out the excess water. Finally, hang them over the clothes line to dry.

How To Store Your Bras

How you fold your underwear affects its lifespan. When deciding how to store your bra, look at the amount of space you have to work with. Make use of a drawer that is big enough to lay each of them down without folding in half.

Place your bras in a lingerie drawer and the cups inside one another to save space and preserve shape. When doing this, make sure you do not tangle or twist your bras. It is best to place different styled bras separately with the use of dividers to make it easier to find what you need.

When deciding how to store bras, know that different bra designs need different storage techniques. What may work for bralettes, may not work for push up and padded bras! For push up and padded bras, inverting the shape of your bra cup is a total no-go. Same for folding one cup into the other. Always keep the cups puffed up to preserve their shape and store them one behind the other in your drawer.

By washing and storing your fave bras the right way and giving them a little TLC, you can make them look better for longer!
